Westerplatte Gdańsk - co robić w wolnym czasie

Westerplatte Gdańsk

     Westerplatte to formowany w latach 1845–1847 półwysep (wcześniej wyspa) w Gdańsku, zlokalizowany przy ujściu Martwej Wisły do Zatoki Gdańskiej. W okresie międzywojennym, od 1926 do 1939 roku, stanowił eksklawę Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej na terytorium Wolnego Miasta Gdańska. To symboliczne miejsce wybuchu II wojny światowej.

 

     Na obszarze Westerplatte działała Wojskowa Składnica Tranzytowa, której obrona we wrześniu 1939 roku stała się ikonicznym początkiem II wojny światowej oraz wyrazem polskiego oporu przeciwko agresji III Rzeszy. Miejsca związane z polem bitwy o Westerplatte zostały umieszczone na liście Pomników Historii 1 września 2003 roku.
